This is a symmetrical green creature matchup where the critical threat to answer is Earthbender Ascension — if it resolves and accumulates counters unchecked, their whole board scales out of control. Get Lost provides clean permanent removal to handle Earthbender Ascension or an oversized Mossborn Hydra at instant speed. Pawpatch Formation gives us additional instant-speed interaction to disrupt their board development and tempo. Soul-Guide Lantern and Insidious Fungus come out as the lowest-impact pieces — their deck has no meaningful graveyard synergies to exploit, and Insidious Fungus is a one-of without a clear role in this board state. Our Brightglass Gearhulk and Craterhoof Behemoth are the primary closers here, so protecting the ramp engine of Llanowar Elves and Nature's Rhythm to reach them quickly is the priority.
Izzet Spellementals is a tempo deck that looks to counter your key spells and close the game quickly with elementals backed by direct damage like Burst Lightning and Sear. Their post-board package adds Disdainful Stroke to tax your expensive payoffs and Annul to answer any artifacts or enchantments, so prioritize developing your mana early and try to force through threats by baiting their countermagic with lower-priority spells first. Sage of the Skies comes in as a creature that provides a life buffer against their burn plan while still being a meaningful threat in the air. Get Lost gives you efficient instant-speed answers to their high-impact threats like Sunderflock and Hearth Elemental before they can generate too much value. Soul-Guide Lantern, Meltstrider's Resolve, Insidious Fungus, and a couple copies of Seam Rip are trimmed as they offer the least impact against a deck focused on counters and burn rather than graveyard or enchantment synergies.
In the mirror, both players are racing to establish the Ouroboroid engine and go wide with Spider Manifestation tokens, so the primary goal post-board is disrupting their graveyard synergies while protecting your own threats. Rest in Peace shuts off any recursion or graveyard-based value and is your most important sideboard card here. Sage of the Skies provides an evasive aerial threat that can race over a ground stall of Spider tokens and applies pressure the opponent must answer. Seam Rip and the single Meltstrider's Resolve are the least impactful cards in a heads-up game where both sides have similar permanent-based strategies, while Soul-Guide Lantern is redundant once Rest in Peace is in.
