Buy sideboard on ManapoolThis matchup is a mana-attrition race: Meltdown wipes their Urza's Saga constructs while Damping Sphere slows their Eldrazi Temple/Ugin's Labyrinth ramp into Emrakul. Wear/Tear answers Blade of the Bloodchief to disrupt their combo and can also destroy Urza's Saga. Burning Inquiry is risky here since it can dig them into their key cards, and Practiced Offense is too slow against their removal-heavy, grindy shell. Lean on Vengevine and Hollow One to close the game before they assemble Emrakul or Urza's Saga value.
Izzet Prowess floods the board with cheap, low-toughness threats like Dragon's Rage Channeler, so Fire Magic's Fira mode (2 damage to each creature) is a great sweeper for their small creatures, though their Mutagenic Growth can push a targeted creature out of range. An extra Lightning Bolt adds more efficient removal and reach in a fast mirror-race matchup. Burning Inquiry is worse here since it feeds their graveyard-adjacent plans and doesn't advance our board when we need bodies fast, and Practiced Offense is too slow against a deck this aggressive. Keep the Vengevine/Hollow One plan intact and race with removal to clear blockers.
Esper Blink leans on Ephemerate and Flickerwisp value loops plus Orcish Bowmasters and Overlord of the Balemurk filling their graveyard; Faerie Macabre lets us proactively exile cards from their graveyard (note it does not stop Solitude/Ephemerate, which aren't graveyard-based) and can also discard for value with Hardened Academic and Marauding Mako triggers. Erode answers a problematic blinked threat or a planeswalker like Kaito or Teferi outright. Practiced Offense is too slow against their efficient removal suite (Fatal Push, Solitude, Prismatic Ending), and one Lightning Bolt comes out since 3 damage rarely closes out their bigger bodies like Overlord of the Balemurk. Focus on discarding aggressively and closing before Thoughtseize and their removal grind us out.
