Buy sideboard on ManapoolMono-Red Madness aims to kill you before your auras come online, so the race is decided by whether your creature survives long enough to get suited up β prioritize Lagonna-Band Trailblazer and Akroan Skyguard as your threats since they shrink their removal. Obsidian Acolyte comes in to grant protection from red on your key creatures, effectively making them immune to Lightning Bolt, Fiery Temper, and Lava Dart at a critical moment. Standard Bearer is a high-impact disruptive creature: because it is a Flagbearer, the opponent must target it with their spells and abilities whenever possible, absorbing Lava Darts, Fiery Tempers, and bolts that would otherwise hit your suited-up attacker. Skyward Spider is too slow and Spirit Link is a low-impact aura when you need to focus on speed and protection. Keep your enchantment-based protection spells like Benevolent Blessing and Emerge Unscathed available to respond to direct removal; Benevolent Blessing in particular can prevent Lava Dart flashback from stripping your auras by name.
This matchup is won by suiting up a single evasion threat and making it immune to their entire interaction suite β Benevolent Blessing naming blue is your most important card, blanket-protecting your creature from Counterspell, Vapor Snag, Sleep of the Dead, and Deem Inferior all at once. Standard Bearer is the other pillar of your game plan, acting as a Flagbearer that forces their interaction spells onto it first and giving your actual threat a free window to accumulate auras. Thraben Charm pulls double duty: the graveyard exile mode chips away at the density that makes Tolarian Terror and Cryptic Serpent cheap, and the pump mode is a blowout in combat while simultaneously triggering heroic on every creature you control. Freewind Falcon's tap ability neutralizes Insectile Aberration's flying clock so your suited-up Akroan Skyguard can attack without racing a flier. We shave the redundant life-gain enchantments and Skyward Spider because reach is irrelevant against a mostly non-creature gameplan, and speed matters more than incremental lifegain when they're threatening to land a 5/5 on turn two.
This matchup pits our tall, enchanted threats against their wide swarm, with Journey to Nowhere and Battle Screech as their most dangerous cards. Standard Bearer acts as a lightning rod, forcing any Journey to Nowhere to target it instead of our suited-up Lagonna-Band Trailblazer or Akroan Skyguard, buying us time to build an overwhelming threat. Thraben Charm does double duty: the third mode bounces Battle Screech tokens (and Kor Skyfisher) back to their library to clear the air for our own flyers, while the first mode can exile Prismatic Strands from their graveyard before they tap a white creature to fog our lethal attack. Revoke Existence permanently exiles any Journey to Nowhere that slips through, as well as Greatsword of Tyr if they bring it in post-board. Keep Spirit Link and Lifelink in to sustain against their token swarm while our big enchanted creature races them to zero.
