Buy sideboard on ManapoolThis matchup is a race to protect or punish Phyrexian Dreadnought; Sickening Dreams is dead against a 12/12 and can't hit anything else useful, so it comes out alongside two copies of Smother. Annul cheaply stops Phyrexian Dreadnought by countering it before Vision Charm can protect its trigger, and generally answers stray artifacts. Chain of Vapor bounces Dreadnought back to hand, forcing them to rebuy the combo, and the extra Chain of Vapor already in the mainboard pairs well with it. Tormod's Crypt is mild insurance against Flash of Insight/graveyard shenanigans; keep Duress and Annul-style answers prioritized since stopping the artifact creature before it enters is key.
Sligh is a fast burn-and-creature aggro deck where reactive counterspells that scale off graveyard size (Circular Logic) are unreliable before you have a full yard, so they come out for something proactive. Tormod's Crypt strips Grim Lavamancer's fuel (it needs to exile cards from their own graveyard) and denies Cursed Scroll's card-selection consistency indirectly by removing any graveyard-based value, while also being a free artifact that doesn't cost tempo. Keep Smother and Sickening Dreams in, since they cleanly answer Grim Lavamancer, Goblin Vandal, and Mogg Fanatic, and Sickening Dreams can double as reach or a mini-sweeper against their small creatures. Life total management via Gush and efficient blocks/removal remains the core plan against their low-toughness threats.
Enchantress has almost no relevant creatures for Smother to hit (Argothian Enchantress is a 0/1 shroud creature that can't even be targeted), so it's dead weight here. Annul is excellent against their enchantment-heavy engine, countering Enchantress's Presence, Sterling Grove, or Solitary Confinement before they can go online. Chain of Vapor answers Solitary Confinement after the fact, and since Argothian Enchantress has shroud it can't be targeted anyway, making artifact/enchantment removal the correct angle instead of creature removal. Circular Logic is kept since its graveyard-scaling tax counter can counter any spell, supplementing a hard Annul against their specific permanent types.
