Mono-Green Landfall builds up big threats like Mossborn Hydra and Mightform Harmonizer that have mana values greater than 2, making Requiting Hex increasingly dead as the game progresses. Avatar's Wrath can spare our best threat while airbending away the rest of the board, buying crucial time against their go-wide landfall plan. We keep our removal suite otherwise intact since Erode still answers their early creatures and our aggressive curve punishes their slower setup turns.
Dimir Midrange is full of countermagic and card advantage engines like Enduring Curiosity, Kaito, and Spyglass Siren, so proactive hand disruption is more valuable than reactive removal they can simply counter or play around. Duress can strip We Say Thee Nay! or a key removal spell before we commit our threats, while Intimidation Tactics exiles a problematic creature like Enduring Curiosity or Cecil, Dark Knight straight from hand. Erode and Requiting Hex are both easily played around or countered by their dense interaction suite, and Requiting Hex cannot hit their threats with mana value 3 or greater. Our aggressive curve wants to punish their slower turns before their card advantage engines take over.
BRG is a grindy sacrifice-value deck with lots of small creatures and card advantage engines rather than key removal targets, so our Erode and Requiting Hex are often clunky against their go-wide, low-toughness plan and our creatures trade fine in combat anyway. Duress and Intimidation Tactics strip their Professor Dellian Fel, Fanatical Offering, or other key noncreature/creature pieces before they can generate value, disrupting their engine proactively. Keep the core aggressive plan intact since Moonshadow, Bloodghast, and our discard synergies (Cool but Rude, Marauding Mako) all still function well against their grindy shell.
